Convair B-58 Hustler

CONVAIR B-58 HUSTLER

The first supersonic bomber entered USAF service, first flown at 11 November 1956. Anticipated to replace B-47, but only two bomb wings (43rd and 305th) have equipped with these type. It was a bold departure from conventional design with it’s delta wing with conical-cambered leading edge, an area ruled fuselage and four podded turbojets. Featuring unique individual escape capsule for supersonic speeds, which is the first in the world of aviation. Weapons and extra fuel carried at large, jettisonable pod under the fuselage. 103 were built, and in it 10 years of service (1960-1970) it establishing several records
