It was a three-engined civil airliner designed in 1937. 34 aircrafts in service at the time Italy’s entry into the war were requisitioned as military transports and eventually joined by 56 more newly built machines. Some of the survivors remained in service until 1949.

It was produced to Air Ministry Specification R.24/31. The first of 10 Mk.I aircraft delivered in 1936. The next produced 20 aircraft, Mk.II featured uprated engines. And all of Mk.Is upgraded into Mk.II standard. London equipped 7 Coastal Command squadrons, and was moperational in the early months of World War II

The first prototype flew on 1 September 1948 and the first production aircraft entered service in 1951, it was the first swept-wing aircraft of western European to enter service after World War II. Saw limited action in support of UN forces during Congo crisis in 1962-1963. also being the first Swedish aircraft to be exported, several being delivered to Austrian. Variants including A-29 (Ground Attack), S-29 (Reconnaissance), J-29D (Experimental with afterburner), J-29E (Interceptor with ‘saw-tooth’ wing)
